We sat down with Josh while we were in DC to see Porter Robinson and asked him a few general questions to help get you acquainted:
"I first took interest back when I was a kid. Loved the beat of individual songs but never thought that a genre of music solely focusing on the beat existed. Wasn't until I found Zyzz, started lifting, and dove into the bodybuilding community that I found the dance [music] community and yes im still mirin you brah. First got exposed [to dance music] through a few popular tracks back in the 90s; Sandstorm (Darude), For An Angel (PaulVanDyk), Kernkraft400 (Zombie Nation), For An Angel, Better Off Alone (Alice Deejay), For An Angel (Massive Attack). (Yeah, For An Angel is my favorite song.) Paul van Dyk is my favorite DJ; he even stole my birthday."
2. What is your role in the EDM DC community now, and how did you first get started?
"I'm a blogger. Started out blogging on Facebook, then started up on RageRestRpt.com. Wrote for Glow Washington DC for a bit, but now I'm back with RageRestRpt. Outside of that you could call me a shuffler. I just like dance music and discussions about it. That's it really."
3. What genres of the EDM scene are you most active in?
"House, trance, techno, hard dance....anything with a steady kick. I like all music that's positive, but I really get down to the stuff I can shuffle to."
4. What do you love most about the DC EDM scene?
"It makes Facebook very entertaining. The community is also very small- if you go out a few times, you'll most likely run into someone you know anywhere in this city."
5. Theoretically, if you could cherry pick your dream lineup for a show, who would open, headline, and close?
Open: Roger Shah
Headline: Paul van Dyk
Close: Organ Donors
