Doing it Right
Weather - Gorgeous! Hot days for swimming and cooler nights for onesies. A bit of overcast and rain on Sat and Sun mornings kept us cool till mid morning, then burned off around noon. We couldn't have asked for better for a camping festival! We didn't experience bad bugs either.
Pool was a PLUS - had a few issues getting the chemicals right early on, but it was a great refreshing option for the warm summer day festival weather. Having a stage right next door to the pool allowed for swimmers to enjoy the sets separately from the raging crowd. We were happy to find that the poolhouse featured some 'real' bathrooms where you could go to escape the port-a-potty horrors come day 3.
Camping - Significantly more organized than events previous at this venue. Large, roped off group camping areas were spread evenly through the campgrounds, and GA campers filled in the space in-between. First Aid stations were established in each main area, and charging stations and water sources were never far away.
Production ++ - We say it every time, but it's always awesome to see what installations BADASS comes up with! Dedicated staff spends weeks ahead of the festival painstakingly creating the incredible environments and decorations around us, and it really shows.
Doing it Wrong
NOSEY NEIGHBORS >.< Due to a neighbor's noise complaint, music scheduled to go on all night was cut short or turned down by 2am Saturday, leaving only the main stage and the barn running until the expected time, and then nothing afterwards. While a few hours less of music on the last night wasn't trip-ruining, it definitely put a damper on #PartyTime to have a few sets we were excited to see interrupted or cancelled. BADASS immediately addressed the issue, and is working on a solution to future noise complaints, and additionally is providing a $5 make-up show for Dreamscape festival wristband holders featuring the cancelled acts.
PORT-A-POTTIES :< A large portion of the few complaints we heard were due to the conditions of some of the facilities. It seems that with the expansion of the festival, there was a lot more waste to get rid of! We'd love to see a few more stocked port-a-pots with a few extra pick ups in future. No one likes to try to hover over a nasty, nearly full container.
Buku - It's been about a year since we last saw him on Bounce Boat, but in that time his skills have progressed past many other prominent producers. His new material combines the ambient composition of Aphex Twin, the rapture of reggae, and multitudes of menacing synths into a slamming new sound for trap music. If you get down, then do yourself a favor start listening to any one of the 20+ tracks he's released just this year on his soundcloud; in fact, just listen to all of them, you'll thank us later.
Marvel Years - One of the top reasons we love going to BADASS events is because the mastermind behind the music selection keeps an ear out for underground & undiscovered talent like VT native Cory Wythe. Only 21 years old, he matches the musical maturity of top tier artists twice his age. He fuses funky glitch-hop with original remixes of timeless classics like Earth Wind and Fire's "Shining Star" & Rolling Stones' :"Gimme Shelter" while harmoniously jamming out over his electric guitar. Fitting his authentic artist handle, we'll surely have Years to Marvel at this man's music.
ƱZ - One of the most anticipated acts of the festival for many was the elusive artist known only by two simple characters. The rest of his identity remains a mystery to the general public, but his style is notorious for its glorious gangster bass lines and cinematic samples. It was a rare chance to see the anonymous expert at work and he laid down a sinister set we won't soon forget.
