Traditionally slated as one of the least favorite nights of the week and marking the end of #PartyTime, Sunday has been given a fresh new face as THE night to look forward to over the past few weeks. Live for Live Music’s new bi-monthly spa parties dubbed ‘When in Robe’ have been steaming up Clinton Hill’s Body By Brooklyn spa for two months so far, and with each installation the crowd is growing and the vibe is getting better and better. Originally a response to the ‘post-festival blues’ that Holy Ship and Jamcruise #SHIPFAM were experiencing this winter after returning from incredible music-filled cruises, When in Robe is now giving everyone here in NYC a chance to trade in earmuffs and parkas for robes and swimwear.
Adrift amongst a herd of inflatable land and sea mammals, patrons have access to 10,000sq ft of luxury spa and several add on treatments, cash bar and FREE snack buffet full of little goodies like fruit, cheese, and sandwiches. This week’s party featured resident robed DJ, SUBSET supporting BUKU and Plastic Plates with his signature BASSment party sound. Pittsburgh native Robert Balotsky aka ‘Buku’ took the decks immediately after, infusing his bass-heavy sound with some killer techno and tech-house transitioning into disco house as his set progressed. We found ourselves unable to stop moving as he found a groove that birthed a hooping throwdown towards the back of the dance floor.
Following Buku’s genre spanning adventure, Australian native Plastic Plates took to the decks, working into a well organized disco-house set that kept an even pace for the partiers getting down amongst (some even WITH) the inflatable zoo surrounding us. Original tracks like ‘Come on Strong’ containing throwback disco sounds melded to the beat of modern house kept the dance floor full and the party going in both rooms. Partway through the evening, #SPAFAM homegrown celebrity the ‘Beer Priest’ showed up with extra beer in hands, delivering frosty goodness to revelers in his path, all from the generosity of his heart and financed from his own wallet. More than just a reason to stay up way too late on a Sunday night, L4LM’s Spa Parties have been successfully replicating the community feeling that has been making Holy Ship and Jam Cruse such a wild success. If you haven't made it out to meet the #SPAFAM yet, there are a handful of tickets left for this week's special Friday night party featuring Gibbz, BRANX, POMO, BCD and Subset, and of course- the Sunday party will be back 3/23.
