Doing it Right
We've seen this guy tear it up B2B with Botnek via live stream, but we were floored when he dropped what was by far the most eclectic set of the festival. Mixing the wubs of dubstep to the tempo of moombahton, the growls of electro over breakbeats, and the sirens of trap with the bounce of big room, Canadian Frédérik Durand is creating some of the most unique sounds out there right now, and we're loving it.
Due to relentless pandering, we tend to walk away from a lot of trap heavy sets these days. One exception for us has been Bro Safari, consistently killing every performance we've had the pleasure of attending. He delivers monster melodies with smashing samples building his blockbuster sound.
Hailing from the west coast, String Cheese Incident members Michael Travis and Jason Hann comprise the live, improvisational dubstep group known as EOTO. Both threw down a charismatic live performance of innovative electronic infused jams, including a "Turn Down for What" cover that put a new spin on what is quickly becoming a stale sound for us. We found ourselves pleasantly surprised by the departure from the ordinary this chill yet wildly entertaining live duo has to offer.
It was one of those rare special moments to close out a first time festival with our longtime favorites. There was even a supermoon to commemorate the occasion. Coming off of his very recent and wildly successful Noise VS Beauty album release, and so soon after the cancellation of Hudson Project, Lorin walked onstage to a crowd that was nearly foaming at the mouth for bass. Never one to disappoint, we were ROCKED through several extremely varied mini-sets featuring new remixes of crowd favorites and new NVSB, all building up to the RARE crowd favorite ‘Pink Elephants’.
