With a plethora of events to choose from on Halloween night, the FRL crew chose to check out Bounce Music Festival’s NYC installment, featuring 3lau and Jordy Dazz at Best Buy Theatre in Times Square. Support for 3lau and Jordy Dazz included BMF regular Visionare along with Jus Jack, and Liquid Todd. We’ve attended shows at Best Buy Theatre before and we’ve always loved the incredible sound that venue can carry, but this time we were really impressed with BMF’s amped up production; lasers, compressed air, non stop confetti showers combined with blaring sound and Halloween decorations made this one of our best Best Buy experiences. We caught about 30 minutes of Visionare who impressed us despite having never seen him. He had the crowd jumping with his big room sound getting us ready for the next heavy hitter.
When Beatport described Jordy Dazz (fka Jordy Lishious) as, “a mixture between heavy weight DJ Fedde le Grand and uber talent Hardwell” we stood up and listened. This was our first opportunity to see him play live and we couldn’t have been more excited to finally get the chance. Jordy mixed parts of a few recent ‘Dazz-Up’s(mashups) and ‘Dope and Dirty’ mixes (his monthly podcasts) along with #FuckRealLife crew’s favorite JD original, ‘Claymore’. His fresh blend of Bounce and Big Room House set the tone perfectly for headliner 3lau. If you’re curious about what you might have missed out on be sure to check it out HERE:
Once upon a time at Camp Bisco 2012, on our way to see Amon Tobin at the main stage, we were magnetically drawn into the BIG tent by a bombardment of SERIOUS dance mash ups. We ventured in and found them to be courtesy of 3lau (Justin Blau), and he’s remained one of our must see DJ’s ever since. We frequently pregame our show nights with Justin’s monthly cloudcast, ‘3lauhaus’ to get us in the mood. Like so many other NY ravers, we were crushed when day 3 of Electric Zoo was cancelled. One of the most outspoken artists on our twitter feed was 3lau. He released the set he was planning to play on his soundcloud and promised to make up for the lost performace when he returned to NY. Turns out, he hadn’t forgotten.
When he took the stage at BMF, Justin got on the mic announcing that he would be playing a special edition of the Electric Zoo set with some unreleased tracks and the debut of a new track, “Get Naked”. Get Naked has the signature ragey sound we love to hear from Justin, and it’s already earmarked for download in our Beatport cart. With a combination of bootlegs, remixes, excellent track selection, and now his own original work, 3lau always keeps us guessing. We can’t wait to see what he has in store for the future.
