Sadly (or fortunately, depending on how you look at the aftermath) we were unable to attend the inaugural Hudson Project this year. As a result, our camping music festival thirst has now become very real. Thankfully, Badass Raves’ is hosting it's 5th Annual Big Dub Festival at the end of the month and it just may be the event we need to satisfy our craving. We’ve kept a close eye on Badass Raves ever since we reviewed Nightmare Festival last October, but this grassroots production company has been throwing themed parties for an active following of dance music maniacs for over 6 years. Like most of the mega music festivals we review, Big Dub features camping, multiple stages, hammock havens, a nightly silent disco, and fireworks. However, unlike oversold mainstream productions, Big Dub is known for fostering a balance between communal gathering and monster party. The 4 day camping tickets have already sold out, leaving very few $115 3 day tickets remaining for those who want to catch this eclectic lineup in an intimate festival setting.
From start to finish, Badass does it right with Big Dub by adding features like merchandise happy hours, swim parties, pro photo shoots, movie popcorn cuddle puddles, body painting, hooping, yoga, and every cocktail hour imaginable. And in true ‘Fuck Real Life’ fashion, they even host all manner of interesting and educational seminars, DIY’s and even Live Action Role Playing and Magic the Gathering tournaments. One of our biggest gripes with Mysteryland this year was the lack of attention towards the camping experience, which is why we were thrilled to see there will be a total of 25 Theme Camps to choose from onsite, all customized by passionate patrons and open to all Big Dub attendees.
Badass has created something truly unique by investing so much energy into the experience of their events. It’s no surprise that Big Dub has been steadily growing annually with now more than 3,000 attendees. For many of us, community is a large part of what makes EDM events so special; and from what we've seen so far, they draw one of the best crowds possible. We’re honored to have the opportunity to cover Big Dub this year and we'll have our merch set up with the other vendors so be sure to stop by; you may just end up in our recap!
